David L. Kerns, M.D., F.A.A.P. served as the Chief Medical Officer at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, California and Director of the county’s hospital-based Center for Child Protection. He is also a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Principal Investigator of CRESAC (Collaboration for Research on the Sexual Abuse of Children). His academic efforts have included the development and publication of a comprehensive medical research agenda for child sexual abuse, the ongoing development of a collaborative medical research data base, and numerous individual investigations focussed on anatomic changes in sexually abused children. He has worked in child abuse and neglect for more than 25 years and has participated in the medical evaluation of over 5,000 suspected child sexual abuse victims.
